What is the role of the PCE under the RMA?

Although the Commissioner does not have a direct role under the RMA, he or she has the power to review the performance of public bodies, such as regional and district councils, in carrying out their functions under the RMA. The Commissioner can make recommendations only, and has no power to direct central or local government authorities to take action.
