Applying for a Resource Consent

Identifying what resource consents are required

The first step in applying for a resource consent is to identify what types of  consents you require for your proposal, if any, and what type of activity your proposal will be classified as. This is determined by the applicable district and/or regional plan. If you are not familiar with the relevant plan, you may wish to seek advice from resource consent officers at the relevant district council. These officers will be able to assist you in identifying the type of resource consent, if any, required under the district plan, as well as direct you to other relevant authorities, such as the regional council or Department of Conservation which may also require consents.
