- The application of the provisions in the Resource Management Act to landscape management
- The identification of important landscapes
- Methods which can be used to protect landscapes
- How individuals, groups and developers can become involved in landscape protection

Key issues to consider
-
Have outstanding and visual amenity landscapes been adequately identified in the relevant regional and district plans?
-
Do the areas identified include all important elements of the landscape including foregrounds?
-
What mechanisms are provided to protect these landscapes?
-
Are provisions strong enough to prevent inappropriate development?
-
Where provisions are weak, what more appropriate mechanisms could be adopted?
